One of the first people I met when I moved to Toronto in 1987 was this guy Michael Kaler. Back then I would sometimes play in bands, but I felt very uncomfortable with live performance. Nevertheless, it was while playing in one of Michael’s early bands, at a house party in 1988, that I met my future wife. I suppose that I owe him more than I can repay!

Years and years later, I find myself in a position to at least pay the interest, as a member of his group, The Ugly Bug Band. In this band I play woodwinds (clarinet, tenor sax, flute) as well as accordion. I also do some backup singing.

Michael’s songs are some of the best I’ve ever encountered anywhere. It ranges between a treat and a genuine honour to be called on to bring his songs to life as a part of the Ugly Bug Band.
